Bactroban indications : |

Bactroban topical is used in the treatment of : impetigo, secondarily infected traumatic skin lesions (up to 10 cm in length or 100 cm2 area) caused by staphylococcus aureu and streptococcus pyogenes.

Bactroban intranasal is used to eradicates nasal colonization with methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus.

Bactroban (Mupirocin) inhibits bacterial protein synthesis.

Therapeutic effects of Bactroban : inhibition of bacterial growth and reproduction.

Bactroban has a great activity against gram-positive organisms, including : staphylococcus aureus, beta-hemolytic streptococci.Also Bactroban is used in the resolution of impetigo and eradication of staphylococcus aureus carrier state.

Bactroban contraindications and precautions : |

Bactroban (Mupirocin) is contraindicated in : hypersensitivity to mupirocin or polyethylene glycol.

Use Bactroban cautiously in : pregnancy or lactation (safety not established); impaired renal function; burn persons.

Bactroban adverse reactions and side effects : |

Bactroban side effects and adverse reactions can be : headache, rhinitis, pharyngitis, burning or stinging with intranasal use, taste perversion, nausea, abdominal pain, ulcerative stomatitis, upper respiratory tract congestion, cough with intranasal use, burning, pruritus, stinging, rash, pain, erythema with topical use.

Bactroban dosage : |
- Topical (adults and children over 2 months) : Apply Bactroban ointment 3 - 5 times daily for 5 - 14 days.
- Topical (adults and children over 3 months) : Apply Bactroban cream in small amount 3 times per day for 10 days.
- Intranasal (adults and children over 1 year) : Apply small amount nasal ointment to each nostril 2 - 4 times per day for 5 - 14 days.

How to administer Bactroban : |
- Topical : wash affected area with soap and water and dry thoroughly.Apply a small amount of Bactroban (Mupirocin) to the affected area 3 times daily and rub in gently.Treated area may be covered with gauze if desired.
- Nasal : apply one half of the ointment from the single-use tube to each nostril twice daily (in the morning and evening) for 5 days.After application, close nostrils by pressing together and releasing sides of the nose repeatedly for 1 minute.

You should learn the correct application of Bactroban.Apply medication exactly as directed for the full course of therapy.If a dose is missed, apply as soons as possible unless almost time for next dose.Please avoid contact with eyes.

Notify school nurse for screening and prevention of transmission.

You should consult health care professional if symptoms have not improved in 3 - 5 days.

Don't use other nasal products with Bactroban.

Don't use cosmetics or other skin products on treated area.
