• Celebrex (Celecoxib) is used for relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumtoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.Also Celebrex is used to reduce the number of adenomatours colorectal polyps in familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), as an adjunct to usual care.Celebrex is used in the management of acute pain including primary dysmenorrhea.

• Celebrex inhibits the enzyme COX-2.This enzyme is required for the synthesis of prostaglandins and has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties.
• Therapeutic effects of Celebrex : decreased pain and inflammation caused by arthritis or spondylitis; decreased numer of colorectal polyps; decreased pain.

• Absorption Absorption describes the process that follows drug administration and its subsequent delivery to systemic circulation. : bioavailability unknown.
• Distribution Drug's distribution in body tissues and fluids. : 97% bound to plasma proteins; extensive tissue distribution.
• Metabolism and excretion Important in determining dosage regimens and intervals for persons with hepatic or impaired renal function. : mostly metabolized by the liver, less than 3% excreted unchanged in urine and feces.
• Half life The half-life of a drug is the amount of time it takes the drug level to decrease by 50% and roughly correlates with the duration of action. : 11 hours.

• Celebrex (Celecoxib) is contraindicated in : hypersensitivity; cross-sensitivity may exist with other NSAIDs including aspirin; history of allergic type reactions to sulfonamide; history of asthma, urticaria or allergic-type reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs, including the aspirin triad (asthma, nasal polyps and severe hypersensitivity reactions to aspirin); advanced renal disease; peri-operative pain from coronary artery bypass graft surgery.Celebrex shouldn't be use in late pregnancy.
• Use Celebrex cautiously in : cardiovascular disease or risk factors for cardiovascular disease, concurrent therapy with corticosteroids or anticoagulants, long duration of NSAID therapy, history of smoking, alcoholism, geriatric persons, heart failure, liver dysfunction, concurrent diuretic or ACE inhibitor therapy, hypertension or fluid retention, renal insufficiency, serious dehydration, pregnancy or children uner 18 years.

• Celebrex side effects and adverse reactions can be : dizziness, headche, insomnia, edema, gastro intestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea, rash, back pain, upper respiratory tract infection, diarrhea.

• Take Celebrex (Celecoxib Capsules) exactly as directed.Don't take more than prescribed dose.Increasing doses does not appear to increase effectivenss.Use lowest effective dose for shortest period of time.
• Report history of allergic reactions to sulfonamides, aspirin, or other NSAIDs before therapy.
• Take Celebrex with food if stomach upset occurs.
• It may take several days before you'll feel consistent pain relief.
• Notify health care professional promptly if signs or symptoms of gastro intestinal toxicity (black stools, abdominal pain), skin rash, edema or unexaplined weight gain occurs.You should discontinue Celebrex and notify health care expert if signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity (nausea, pruritus, jaundice, fatigue, lethargy) occur.
• Notify prescriber if pregnancy is planned or suspected.
• Persons with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) must continue routine surveillance procedures.
