• Keflex (Cephalexin) is used in the treatment of : skin and skin structure infections (including burn wounds), pneumonia, otitis media, urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, septicemia caused by susceptible organisms.

• Keflex binds to bacterial cell wall membrane, causing cell death.
• Therapeutic effects of Ceclor : bactericidal action against susceptible bacteria.
• Keflex is active against many gram-positive cocci including : streptococcus pneumoniae, group A beta hemolytic streptococci, penicillinase producing staphylococci.Keflex is not active against : methicillin resistant staphylococci, bacteroides fragilis, enterococcus.Keflex has limited activity against some gramnegative rods including : klebsiella pneumoniae, proteus mirabilis, escherichia coli.

• Metabolism and excretion Important in determining dosage regimens and intervals for persons with hepatic or impaired renal function. : excreted almost entirely unchanged by the kidneys.
• Half life The half-life of a drug is the amount of time it takes the drug level to decrease by 50% and roughly correlates with the duration of action. : 50 - 80 minutes.

• Keflex (Cephalexin) is contraindicated in : hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, serious hypersensitivity to penicillins.
• Use Keflex cautiously in : persons hypersensitive to penicillin because of the possibility of cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics, breast-feeding women and in persons with a history of colitis or renal insufficiency.

• Take Keflex (Cephalexin) around the clock at evenly spaced times and finish the medication completely as directed, even if feeling better.Missed doses of Keflex should be taken as soon as possible unless almost time for next dose; don't double doses.
• Use calibrated measuring device with liquid preparations.
• Sharing Keflex may be dangerous.
• Review use and preparation of tablets for oral suspension (Panixine DisperDose).
• Report signs of superinfection and allergy.
• Take Keflex with food or milk to lessen gastrointestinal discomfort.If you're taking suspension form, shake container well before measuring dose and store it in a refrigerator.
• Notify health care professional if fever and diarrhea develop.
• Don't drink alcohol or use meds with alcohol : reaction may occur.
• Use yogurt or buttermilk to maintain intestinal flora, decrease diarrhea.
