Lotensin (Benazepril Hydrochloride) is contraindicated in : hypersensitivity, pregnancy, angioderma; cross-sensitivity amone ACE inhibitors may occur.

Use Lotensin cautiously in persons with impaired hepatic or renal function.

Lotensin adverse reactions and side effects : |

Lotensin side effects and adverse reactions can be : headache, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, somnolence, symptomatic hypotension, nausea, impotence, hyperkalemia, arthralgia, arthritis, myalgia, cough, increased diaphoresis, hypersensitivity reactions.

Lotensin dosage : |
- Oral administration (adults) : 5 - 10 mg of Lotensin once daily, increased gradually to maintenance dose of 20 - 40 mg / day as single dose or 2 divided doses (begin with 5 mg / day in persons receiving diuretics).
- Oral administration (children over 6 years) : 0.2 - 0.6 mg / kg once daily.

Oral administration (adults) :
- CCr < 30 ml / min : initiate Lotensin therapy with 5 mg / day dose.

How to administer Lotensin : |
- For persons with difficulty swallowing tablets, your pharmacist may compound Lotensin suspension which are stable 30 days if refrigerated.Shake suspension before each use.
|

Useful advices on Lotensin : |

Avoid salt substitutes because they may contain potassium, which can cause high potassium level in persons taking Lotensin.

Light-headedness can occur, especially during first few days of Lotensin therapy.Rise slowly to minimize this effect and report dizziness to your prescriber.

If fainting occurs, stop Lotensin (Benazepril Hydrochloride) and call health care professional immediately.

Inadequate fluid intake, vomiting, diarrhea and excessive perspiration can lead to light-headedness and fainting.
-
Report signs of infections, such as fever and sore throat.

Call your prescriber if you develop easy bruising or bleeding, swelling of tongue or hoarseness.

Women of childbearing age : you should notify prescriber if you'll become pregnant because Lotensin will need to be stopped.

Don't use other OTC products (cough, cold, allergy) during Lotensin therapy, unless directed by your prescriber.

Comply with your dosage, even if you're feeling better.

Lotensin may cause skin rash or impaired perspiration.
