Starlix contraindications and precautions : |

Starlix (Nateglinide) is contraindicated in : hypersensitvity; pregnancy or lactation (insulin recommended to control diabetes during pregnancy); diabetic ketoacidosis; type 1 diabetes.

Use Starlix cautiously in : elderly persons, malnourished persons, persons with pituitary or adrenal insufficiency, strenous physical exercise, insufficient caloric intake, autonomic neuropathy, moderate to severe liver impairment, fever, infection, trauma or surgery, children.

Starlix adverse reactions and side effects : |

Starlix side effects and adverse reactions can be : dizziness, diarrhea, hypoglycemia, back pain, arthropathy, upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, coughing, flulike symptoms, accidental trauma.

Starlix dosage : |
- Oral administration (adults) : 120 mg of Starlix three times daily before meals; persons who are approaching glycemic control may start at 60 mg three times daily.
|
|
How to administer Starlix : |
- Oral administration : administer 1-30 minutes prior to meals.
- Starlix may be administered concurrently with Glucophage (Metformin), Actos (Pioglitazone HCL) or rosiglitazole.
- Persons stabilized on a diabetic regimen who are exposed to stress, fever, trauma, infection or surgery may require administration of insulin.

Useful advices on Starlix : |

Take Starlix (Nateglinide) at same time each day as prescribed.Take missed doses as soon as remembered unless almost time for next dose.Please don't take Starlix if you're unable to eat.

Starlix controls hyperglycemia but doesn't cure diabetes.Starlix therapy is long term.

If hypoglycemia occurs, take a glass of orange juice or 2-3 tablespoons of sugar, honey or corn syrup dissolved in water and notify health care professional.

You must follow prescribed diet, medication and exercise regimen to prevent hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic episodes.

You should learn about the proper testing of serum glucose and ketones.These tests should be closely monitored during periods of stress or illness and health care professional notified if significant changes occur.

Starlix may occasionally cause dizziness.Avoid driving or other activities requiring alertness until response to medication is known.

Avoid other medications, especially aspirin and alcohol, while on this therapy without consulting health care professional.

Insulin is the recommended method of controlling blood glucose during pregnancy.Women : use a form of contraception other than oral contraceptives and notify health care professional promptly if pregnancy is planned or suspected.

Inform health care expert of this medication regimen prior to treatment or surgery.

Carry a form of sugar (sugar packets or sugar candy) and identification describing disease process and medication regimen at all times.

You should follow-up all your exams for Starlix therapy.
