• Zyrtec (Cetirizine) relief allergic symptoms caused by histamine release including : seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria.

• Zyrtec (Cetirizine) antagonizes the effects of histamine at H1 receptor sites; does not bind to or inactivate histamine.Anticholinergic effects are minimal and sedation is dose related.
• Therapeutic effects of Zyrtec : decreased symptoms of histamine excess (sneezing, rhinorrhea, ocular tearing and redness, pruritus).

• Absorption Absorption describes the process that follows drug administration and its subsequent delivery to systemic circulation. : well absorbed following oral administration.
• Distribution Drug's distribution in body tissues and fluids. : unknown.
• Metabolism and excretion Important in determining dosage regimens and intervals for persons with hepatic or impaired renal function. : excreted primarily unchanged by the kidneys.
• Half life The half-life of a drug is the amount of time it takes the drug level to decrease by 50% and roughly correlates with the duration of action. : 8 hours (decreased in children, increased in renal impairment).

• Zyrtec is contraindicated in : hypersensitivity, acute atacks of asthma.Please note that Zyrtec is not recommended for use during lactation.
• Use Zyrtec cautiously in : persons with hepatic or renal impairment (dosage reduction recommended if CCr < 31 ml/min or hepatic function is impaired); geriatric persons (start with lower doses); pregnancy or children smaller than 6 months (safety not established yet).

• Zyrtec adverse reactions and side effects can be : dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, pharyngitis, dry mouth.

• Oral administration (adults) : CCr < 31 ml/min, hepatic impairment or hemodialysis - 5 mg of Zyrtec once daily.
• Oral administration (children 6-11 years) : start therapy at less than 5 mg/day.

• Administer Zyrtec once daily without regard to food.

• Take Zyrtec (Cetirizine) exactly as directed.
• Zyrtec may cause dizziness and drowsiness.Avoid driving or other activities requiring alertness until response to medication is known.
• Avoid taking alcohol or other centra nervous system depressants concurrently with Zyrtec.
• Good oral hygiene, frequent rinsing of mouth with water, and sugarless gum or candy may minimize dry mouth.You should notify dentist if dry mouth persists more than 2 weeks.
• Contact health care professional if dizziness occurs or if symptoms persist.
• Coffee or tea may reduce drowsiness.
